channeling bridget jones
Posted by thejinius under dating, life in new york
I’m not a big fan of Rene Zellwegger but I really like her in those Bridget Jones movies. I think her story appeals to alot of women out there trying to balance the trifecta of life: love, work, and inner thighs.
And when Bridget gets dumped by the dashing Daniel Cleaver (played by the delicious Hugh Grant) she initially gets over it by drinking, smoking, and listening to “All by myself” but then she decides to quit the moping, quit her job, quit smoking, and go for her dream job.
So in the spirit of Bridget Jones I’ve decided that my life will not resemble a Cathy comic and I will not let life shove me off to the curb! I may only be 5′1 but you can’t push me around a-holes!
Er…sorry. I’ve been in an agro mood lately. It’s all those episodes of The Wire.
Here is how I’ve been balancing the urban trifecta.
work: If I see that there’s an event or project I’m interested in, I ask my boss if I can participate. He always says yes. There’s no harm in asking for bigger projects! If they say no, you can just ask again! And as most of you know, I’ve enrolled in a television writing class. I guess my biggest dream would be to write a comedy with a diverse cast of characters. The only diverse shows out there are Lost, Grey’s Anatomy, and The Wire and those are all dramas. And there are no comedies featuring Asians. I feel like the only show that we see Asians on are those set in hospitals. Yeah, yeah, we’re all doctors and good at math but we can tell jokes too! (And yes there are other funny Asians besides Margaret Cho…um…let me get back to you on that)
inner thighs:post break up I was sitting at home and eating take out pasta and watching The Break Up. Now I sit at home, eat pasta, and watch The Wire. But I’m making myself go to the gym. I took up running and now I run about an average of 3-4 miles per workout. This is a huge step for me since before I would get side pains after a half mile and nearly fall off the treadmill. They really need to do something about that! But seriously running has changed my life. I use it as a way to process what I need to do with the rest of the day and just burn off some steam. And it makes your ass look good!
love: hee hee hee.
