learning to drive
Posted by thejinius under growing up
I have a job interview tomorrow. I applied a long time ago and didn’t mention it because a) it’s in a different field from what I”m doing now and b) it would involve a move to Seattle.
Yeah, bye bye New York.
I find that I’m confronted with heated opposition whenever I casually mention leaving New York. “But you don’t know how to drive, Ji!” or “You haven’t even been there long enough to know that you like it!”
Well, did I mention that I applied to college in New York without ever having visited the city? I’ve now been here for ten years.
I think it’s good to get out of your comfort zone. Challenge yourself. I’m almost thirty. I should eventually learn how to drive–especially learning to be the driver of my own life.
Anyway, I haven’t even had the interview yet so all this is just premature. I still have time to learn how to drive. Uhh, just don’t expect me to learn how to drive stick.

If it’s any consolation, I lived in downtown Seattle for a whole year without owning a car, it’s totally do-able. Just not as super convenient as I imagine New York to be.

waw… all i gotta say is GET OUT!!! get out of NYC- yes it’ll hurt for the first few month, but then once you’re free of the “hold” you’ll realize how much more enjoyable life outside nyc is.

i only applied to one college without doing much more research than looking at a chart of how many majors it offered, and without ever having set foot on campus. i LOVED it, and would never have wanted to go anywhere else.
good luck on the interview!

as a lifelong Seattlite (that is actually what we’re called), all I can say is that this city is amazing. big enough to get what you need, small and friendly enough to get what you want. and did I mention I live here, I know all the best happy hour spots, AND manage a cafe downtown? can you say free lunch? good luck on the interview!
