yes we can…watch real housewives of atlanta without imploding

Obama’s victory on Tuesday really underscored Lincoln’s sentiment that when one group advances, all people advance. His victory was not just a defining moment for African Americans but a seismic shift for our entire society and it will usher a new era of opportunities for all people. His speech left such an indelible impression that I felt compelled to devote my time to public service and contribute to the greater good of our communities.
And while I was figuring out ways to devote myself to public service, I caught en episode of Real Housewives of Atlanta.
I have not watched many episodes because while I may enjoy reality tv (thank you jon and kate plus eight), I have a really low tolerance for shows that simultaneously glorify and demean women with questionable scruples. I tried avoiding Real Housewives because we don’t need another show that depicts women as money hungry, classless, and vain. But when Anderson Cooper mentioned the show and white wall street dudes were referencing NeNe, I knew I had to tune in.
Okay, first of all, what is up with the one white woman on the show? She’s kinda like the Marisa Tomei character on A Different World only not as charming, educated, and nice. Jezebel.com said that she looks like the Wayans Brother on White Chicks only she’s actually white.
So this woman aspires to be a country music star but has trouble achieving this goal because of a few technicalities like…not being able to carry a tune.
And Dallas Austin?? What are you doing on this show??? Is this part of some mandatory community service for that time you got arrested in Dubai???? Gee, how does one go from producing tracks for TLC and Madonna to the Real Housewives of Atlanta???
The worst part is that they have to put subtitles in when he speaks. They do that on Jon and Kate Plus Eight as well but their children are 4 years old.
Anyway, I feel bad for judging. But then I blame Bravo for putting this on tv. It’s like they are taunting us by putting such a ridiculous show and seeing if we can watch without making fun of these people.
But the part when she tries guacamole for the first time is hilarious. And by hilarious I mean horrific and sad.

i happened to catch part of an episode of RHoA where a blonde woman had to have a plaid schoolgirl outfit altered to be even more tiny, and then changed into it in the cab of her pickup truck. that was enough for me.
Jon and Kate + 8, however, I ADORE.
